Lysimachus was a Macedonian officer and bodyguard to Alexander the Great. In the partition of the empire, he was assigned the difficult province of Thrace.
He spent years consolidating his power against local tribes before joining the alliance against Antigonus. After the Battle of Ipsus, he added western Asia Minor to his domains.
He eventually took control of Macedon but was defeated and killed by Seleucus I Nicator at the Battle of Corupedium.
