Biography

Cassander was the son of Antipater, the regent of Macedon. He engaged in a ruthless struggle for power in Greece and Macedon after Alexander's death.
He allied with Ptolemy, Antigonus (initially), and Lysimachus against Polyperchon and Olympias. To secure his throne, he ordered the execution of Alexander's mother Olympias, his wife Roxana, and his son Alexander IV.
He refounded the city of Therma as Thessalonica, naming it after his wife.
