Guo Ziyi

General and Statesman of Tang

Biography

Guo Ziyi was a military commander who remained loyal to the Tang court throughout the chaos of the An-Shi Rebellion.
He was instrumental in recapturing the capitals Chang'an and Luoyang, often using clever diplomacy to gain the support of the Uyghur Khaganate.
Unlike many powerful generals who became warlords, Guo Ziyi was famous for his absolute loyalty and humble character, which allowed him to survive and prosper under multiple emperors.
In Chinese folklore, he is often celebrated as a symbol of longevity, prosperity, and high honor (Fulu Shou), living to the age of 84.
