Emperor Suzong of Tang
Eighth Emperor of Tang Dynasty
Biography
Born as Li Heng, he was the Crown Prince when the An-Shi Rebellion broke out and forced the imperial family to flee the capital.
In 756 AD, after separating from his father Xuanzong during the flight to Sichuan, he arrived at the frontier fortress of Lingwu and was declared emperor by his supporters.
His ascension created a new center of political and military power, allowing the Tang to regroup and seek essential military aid from the Uyghur Khaganate.
Despite the immense pressure of the rebellion, he successfully coordinated generals like Guo Ziyi and Li Guangbi to recapture the lost capitals of Chang'an and Luoyang.
