Sun Quan

Warlord and founding emperor of Eastern Wu

Biography

At a very young age, Sun Quan inherited the warlord position over the rich southern lands after his legendary older brother Sun Ce was assassinated.
In 208 AD, facing the colossal army of Cao Cao, he boldly allied with Liu Bei and heavily relied on his brilliant commander Zhou Yu to secure an overwhelming naval victory at Red Cliffs.
Though primarily defensive, Sun Quan was highly pragmatic. He betrayed Liu Bei to capture Jing Province and eliminate Guan Yu, ensuring the safety of his borders.
His extraordinarily long reign stabilized southern China and laid the eventual groundwork for its economic prominence in subsequent dynasties.
