Odoacer was a Germanic military leader who rose through the ranks of the Roman army in Italy.
In 476 AD, he deposed Romulus Augustulus and sent the imperial regalia to Constantinople, ruling Italy in the name of the Eastern emperor.
His reign ended when Theoderic the Great of the Ostrogoths defeated him; Odoacer was killed in 493 AD.
