A Mongol ruler who conquered much of Western Asia. A grandson of Genghis Khan and brother of Kublai Khan, he founded the Ilkhanate in Persia. He is most famous for leading the Siege of Baghdad in 1258, which ended the Abbasid Caliphate and caused massive destruction in the Islamic world.
