Brasidas

Spartan General

Spartan Unknown โ€“ 422 BC

Biography

Brasidas was a Spartan officer distinguished by his energy, charisma, and diplomatic skillโ€”qualities often lacking in typical Spartan leaders.
He led a successful expedition into Thrace, winning over Athenian allies such as Amphipolis, which threatened Athens' grain supply.
He died at the Battle of Amphipolis, winning the battle but falling in combat, ironically alongside his Athenian rival Cleon.
