Biography

Tutored by the philosopher Aristotle in his youth, Alexander developed a keen intellect and a love for Homeric epics. He succeeded his father Philip II at age 20 and immediately solidified his control over Greece before launching his invasion of the Achaemenid Persian Empire.
His campaign was a sequence of legendary feats: cutting the Gordian Knot, shattering Persian armies at the Granicus, Issus, and Gaugamela, and marching as far as the Hydaspes in India. He founded over twenty cities bearing his name, most notably Alexandria in Egypt.
Alexander's legacy extends beyond conquest; he initiated the Hellenistic period, blending Greek culture with Eastern traditions. He died in Babylon at age 32, leaving an empire that would shape the course of history for centuries.
