Mehmed II

Biography

Mehmed II, also known as Mehmed the Conqueror, became the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire at a very young age. Driven by a lifelong ambition to achieve what his predecessors could not, he focused entirely on capturing Constantinople, the ancient capital of the Byzantine Empire.
A brilliant military strategist and open-minded innovator, Mehmed embraced the latest technologies. He hired foreign engineers to cast massive siege cannons and orchestrated the ingenious overland transport of his fleet to bypass Byzantine sea defenses.
After conquering Constantinople in 1453, Mehmed transformed the city into the new, magnificent capital of the Ottoman Empire. He was a great patron of the arts and sciences, bringing both Islamic and European scholars to his court, and his conquests laid the foundation for the Ottoman Empire's future dominance as a global superpower.
