A prominent Carthaginian general and statesman, and the father of Hannibal Barca. He fought against the Romans in Sicily during the First Punic War and later suppressed the Mercenary War in Carthage. He is known for having instilled in his son, Hannibal, a deep-seated hatred for Rome, which fueled the Second Punic War.
