Biography

Edward of Woodstock, known to history as the Black Prince, was the eldest son of King Edward III of England, and the heir apparent to the English throne.
He was one of the most successful English commanders during the Hundred Years' War, celebrated by his contemporaries as one of the greatest knights of his age.
He led the English vanguard at the Battle of Crรฉcy when he was only 16, and decisively defeated and captured King John II of France at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. He died one year before his father, meaning he never became king.
