Goguryeo

History

Goguryeo was a powerful Korean kingdom that ruled much of the northern Korean Peninsula and Manchuria. Legend says it was founded by Chu-mong (Jumong), the son of the Heavenly Emperor's son Haemosu and Yuhwa, a river spirit's daughter.

Jumong hatched from a golden egg and was a master archer who could shoot the eye of a needle. The kingdom was legendary for its fierce warriors and resilient fortresses, such as Liaodong and Ansi.

Its defense against the Sui and Tang invasions is celebrated as a defining moment in Northeast Asian history.
