Emperor Yang of Sui

Second Emperor of Sui Dynasty

Biography

Born as Yang Guang, he ascended to the throne after allegedly murdering his father, Emperor Wen.
He completed the Grand Canal, a massive engineering feat that connected northern and southern China.
Starting in 612 AD, he launched several catastrophic invasions against Goguryeo with more than a million soldiers.
The failure of these campaigns, combined with widespread peasant rebellions, led to his assassination in 618 AD.
